History Behind the Day

The day marks the anniversary of Startup India, an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16, 2016, designed to foster innovation and build a robust startup culture. In 2022, during Startup India Innovation Week, the Prime Minister officially designated January 16 as National Startup Day. In 2025, the ninth anniversary features “Udyamotsav 2025” and a week-long celebration of student entrepreneurship across 14 Indian cities.
